Do I Need A Permit?
Are you planning a project to improve your property such as building a fence, adding a porch, deck or room to your house, or building a new structure such as a shed, carport or garage? If so, you will need permits.
There are two components which apply when making site improvements: Land Use Regulations and Building Codes.
The City of Myrtle Point regulates Land Use actions to ensure that the planned action or development complies with the requirements of the Myrtle Point Development Code. Most exterior improvements to a property require Zoning Clearance approval. If your project is limited to interior improvements to an existing structure, Zoning Clearance may not be necessary. The first step for almost every project is to fill out a Zoning Clearance/Fence Permit Application attached below. Land Use actions which do not meet all the requirements of the Myrtle Point Development Code may require additional approval such as a Conditional Use Permit or Variance. Applications for these actions also are available at the bottom of the page and the following fees apply:
- Zoning Clearance…………………….No charge
- Fence Permit…………………………..No charge
- Conditional Use Application………$75.00
- Variance Application………………..$75.00
- Partitions (per lot charge)………….$25.00
- Subdivision (plus costs)…………….$140.00
- Home Occupation Application……$75.00
- Home Occupation Renewal………..$5.00 (per year)
If your project involves structural, electrical or plumbing improvements you will need a specialty permit. Structural, Electrical and Plumbing Permits are issued by the Oregon State Building Codes Division. The local office is located inside Coos Bay City Hall at 500 Central Avenue, Suite 135, Coos Bay, OR 97420; phone (541) 266-1098. The Building Codes Division normally requires an approved Zoning Clearance Application prior to approving building permits.
If you have any questions regarding the process, please contact the City of Myrtle Point at (541) 572-2626 or email
